Massage Therapy for the Believer

Experiencing fatigue:

Massage releases endorphins – the body’s natural painkiller – and is being used in chronic illness, injury and recovery from surgery to control and relieve pain.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Dealing with depression:

Massage can fight depression by lowering cortisol levels. Massage also can increase the levels of serotonin and dopamine, which are both neurotransmitters that help stabilize your mood.

Proverbs 17:22

A cheerful heart is good medicine,

But a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Psalm 42:5

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Seeking restoration and healing: (Massage) decreases muscle pain & tension, rejuvenates the body and mind and lifts the spirit, relaxes muscles, and alleviates headaches, hastens healing, increases range of motion and facilitates removal of waste and inflammation by-products. Hebrews 12:1

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Psalm 40:1-3

1 I waited patiently for the Lord;

he turned to me and heard my cry.

2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,

out of the mud and mire;

he set my feet on a rock

and gave me a firm place to stand.

3 He put a new song in my mouth,

a hymn of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear the Lord

and put their trust in him.

Anxiety: Studies show that massage lowers the stress hormone called cortisol. (http://www.prevention.com/mind-body/natural-remedies/how-massage-helps-depression-and-anxiety)

Psalm 94:19

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you

Mental Clarity and Confidence:

Massage can promote feelings of peace and inner wellness, relaxation, mental clarity, and improved confidence.  (http://www.massagetherapy101.com/massage-techniques/touch-for-health.aspx)

Philippians 1:6

6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 43:2

2 When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you;

and when you pass through the rivers,

they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire,

you will not be burned;

the flames will not set you ablaze.

  1. I have to tell you I’ve been wanting to meet another massage therapist who is christ centered and it’s incredibly hard to find. I’ve been in the industry almost 20 years. I would love to chat with you more. I’m so encouraged by just finding your blog and reading through these descriptions and verses. Thank you.

    • Wow!!!! Heidi! Thank you so much for your message. I would love to hear your story. I was super excited to receive such a kind message on here. You have inspired me to publish some of these posts from years ago! I would love to hear more about you and connect! In the 9 years practicing as a LMT, this is one of the first and best messages I’ve received. I am so uplifted by it. I truly believe we can use all to the glory of God and massage therapy is a powerful way we can share healing, compassion and great health with others! Feel free to email me
      aklively7@gmail.com. Praying for your ministry to others!

I would love to hear from you!
